You may think you have arrived in paradise when you come to Hveragendi, Iceland. Located in the Ölfusdalur Valley, the city is called the hot springs capitol of the world. Imagine sitting in the middle of a secluded hot springs watching the aurora borealis overhead and gazing at snow on the ground around you. That is the type of surreal romantic experience you can have when you visit Hveragendi. While many of Iceland’s ice caves are well known, not many people choose to come to the Raufarholshellir Lava Tube Cave so you and your significant other may have the entire cave to yourself. Iceland is well known for its unique Icelandic Horses that have five gaits and a great way to learn more about them is to ride one across the open valleys just outside of town.

The sole survivor of the Seven Wonders of the World is the Great Pyramid of Egypt. Located just outside Cairo, Egypt, visitors can not only see the pyramid, but also walk inside the pyramid that was originally constructed about 2500 BC. At the heart of the 2011 student revolution, Tahrir Square can be visited. When there, make sure to stop by the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities to view the King Tutankhamen’s treasure and mummies. In all, this museum contains over 120,000 artifacts. The narrow Khan El-Khalili Bazaar is a wonderful place to visit and barter with the many merchants. Some of the best souvenirs to get here include crystal and perfumes. Leave time to visit the Cairo Opera that contains two main concert halls, an open-air theater, and a museum.

If you love communing with nature on your romantic getaway, then consider Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island. Rent a boat and explore the ocean. Visitors often have up-close encounters with sea lions, dolphins and seals. Enjoy a beautiful sunset over the water as you sip on locally produced wines. Regardless of the type of angling that you enjoy, you will find a perfect spot near Penneshaw. Garfish and trevally are popular catches from just boats just off the shore or head further to sea to catch larger sport fish. Alternatively, King George whiting, squid and salmon can be caught from the shore. Visit the Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary at night to see the nocturnal animals and take in a birds of prey show.
